My Human Spirit

I have been meeting with Christians on Campus for three years. During my first year at The University of Texas at Austin, I knew that I would join a Christian organization and I received a tract from someone on campus. Receiving a tract made it easy for me to join a group and not be as intimidated as if I tried to approach a group face to face on my own. I was contacted by someone and started having one-on-one appointments with believers on the campus. Then I started going to home meetings, Bible studies and bigger meetings; eventually I started going to conferences with even more believers.

Something that I have really enjoyed is learning about my human spirit. Before, I understood the Trinity and how God is three in one, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, but I didn't know we actually have a spirit in which to contact God (John 4:24). FirstI Thessalonians 5:23 points out that we have a spirit, soul, and body. Knowing this, I wanted to know how I could touch my spirit to contact God. I shortly found out that the best way to touch my spirit is to call on the Lord's name from a pure heart (2 Timothy 2:22). This exercise has been so sweet. To have a personal relationship with the Lord by calling on His name is a marvelous thing.

Romans 8:15 also says that we have “received a spirit of sonship.” Oh, we have received! And we are sons! This is so marvelous to realize that I have a spirit, and that I can touch and contact my Lord. Before, I didn't know about my human spirit and would try to contact God using my mind. There was no sweetness then. When I first received the Lord, He came into my spirit and became my inward life (Romans 8:10). I have been searching for my spirit, and hallelujah I have found it!
